On-Grid Inverters
On-grid inverters, also called grid-tied inverters, convert DC power from solar panels into grid-synchronised AC and feed it into the grid. They are used in residential, commercial and industrial plants built for generation and grid export, with no battery storage.
Before you buy
- No backup: an on-grid inverter shuts down when the grid fails, to protect people working on the lines. If you need power during outages, look at hybrid inverters.
- Single or three phase: match the output to your supply; three-phase string inverters suit three-phase connections and larger plants.
- MPPT inputs: panel groups facing different directions or tilts should ideally use separate MPPT inputs. See what MPPT is.
- String voltage: open-circuit voltage on the coldest day must stay below the inverter's maximum input voltage.
- Location: mount wall units in shade with good airflow to avoid heat derating.
Solis, KSTAR, Power Solid and INHENERGY on-grid models
Wall-mounted units come from Solis, including the Solis residential on-grid inverter, KSTAR and Power Solid. For three-phase sites there are the Solis S6 series three-phase string inverter, the KSTAR three-phase string inverter and the INHENERGY three-phase inverter.
